#1 Vet in Hillsborough, Down
Cromlyn House Veterinary Hospital is an RCVS-registered small animal hospital (established in 2010) that covers routine care and surgery, with on-site out-of-hours support via MiNightVet for emergencies. The website describes in-house diagnostics (including an on-site lab, ultrasound and X‑ray) and a wide service range from dentistry and neutering to more advanced areas like keyhole surgery.
From the latest reviews available to us, many owners describe clear explanations and ongoing management of complex, long-term conditions (including regular monthly check-ins for an older dog, and discussing treatment options and costs for a dog with a cancerous tail tumour). A minority report a very different experience—raising concerns about transparency, pain management, and decision-making around tests and anaesthesia—suggesting experiences may vary depending on the clinician involved.

Maddie my British Bulldog had her review with Katherine the vet today and as usual was spoilt rotten by the reception staff, veterinary nurses and vet. This veterinary practice always goes the extra mile and can always be trusted to give the best advice they can in the situation. It’s the wonderful staff and their skills which really make it and it’s wonderful to resource to have a practice like this locally.

I really wanted to have a positive experience with this veterinary practice, but I was left feeling disappointed. From my perspective, the focus seemed to be more on bringing in revenue than on the genuine welfare of pets. For that reason, I would strongly suggest going elsewhere.

We recently took our cat to Cromlyn House due to concerning symptoms, including bleeding gums and severe lethargy. The initial diagnosis suggested a teeth cleaning procedure under anesthesia, along with blood tests and IV fluids. However, upon discovering our cat's extremely low iron levels, the procedure was cancelled due to the risks associated with anesthesia. While we appreciate the clinic's caution, we were disappointed with the subsequent handling of our cat's care. The recommendation to take her home with steroids, without exploring further treatment options or pain management, was concerning. The lack of transparency regarding potential causes and treatment options, as well as the uncertainty about our cat's pain levels, added to our frustration. What was most troubling was the decision to put our cat under anesthesia BEFORE receiving the blood test results, which could have been done beforehand. This decision resulted in significant costs without providing adequate insight into our cat's condition. Seeking a second opinion at Vets for Pets in Longstone Lisburn yielded a vastly different experience. The vet provided a detailed explanation of possible causes for our cat's anemia and suggested treatment options, including antibiotics, steroids, and B12 and iron shots. Our cat has since responded well to this treatment and is now thriving. The contrast between the two clinics is stark. We feel that Cromlyn House prioritized generating revenue over providing comprehensive care, whereas Vets for Pets Longstone demonstrated a more thoughtful and nuanced approach. The difference in treatment plans, including the use of flavored steroids, highlights the inconsistencies in care. We do not recommend Cromlyn House Veterinary Clinic due to our very disappointing experience. The quality of care seems to depend on the individual vet, and the approach to treatment appears inconsistent. We hope that our experience will serve as a cautionary tale for pet owners seeking care for their beloved animals.

I would like to thank Sophie and Joanne for looking after my pet so well last week. It was an emergency appointment, and Sophie did everything possible to make Tilly comfortable. They were both so sensitive and caring, and I would highly recommend them. Thank you!

I rang tonight feeling worried and upset about my dog. I brought her in as advised. The staff are really lovely and welcoming. Thank you so much to the vet Kathryn for assessing my dog and helping her and giving me advice. I also really appreciate her patience and understanding. Thank you again and thanks to the staff.

Excellent care at this practice. My dog Molly was recently diagnosed with a cancerous tumour in her tail and the care and treatment she has received has been amazing. All options with cost were explored with us allowing us to make the best decision for Molly. Would highly recommend this vets. Having the out of hours on site is a welcome bonus too.

First class veterinary service provided at Cromlyn House Veterinary Hospital - professional and caring in equal measure. My older dog, a Miniature Schnauzer, who will turn 15 years old in 2 days time, has been a life time patient at Cromlyn House. Since late 2020 she has had multiple and complex health issues. The standard of care that she received at Cromlyn House in early 2021, when she was extremely ill, was above and beyond. That level of patient support and professional advice continues to the present day as she is treated on a regular basis for other unrelated conditions. Her monthly appointments at Cromlyn House since early 2024 have been an important factor in ensuring that her ongoing health issues have been addressed in live time and her overall condition and mobility has remained stable for over 18 months. Today she still enjoys a good quality of life, balanced against her advanced years. The fact that she is able to do so, and walks in the park each and every day, is testament to the staff, past and present, at Cromlyn House - veterinary surgeons, nursing staff and the administrative and reception team.
